Read the passage and answer the questions.

MEMORY OF US

This is a story of friendship. It’s about two true friends. One of them has bad times. The other one doesn’t have any problems but it’s difficult for her to sleep well when her dear
friend has a lot of problems.
Ann was my best friend when I was at kindergarden. Her parents had great problems. She was always unhappy. I told these to mum and dad and they were sorry for Ann. One day I
asked mum and dad. “Can Ann stay with us because she is very unhappy at home?” They said “No, dear. This isn’t suitable for her parents.
We can’t do that. Wait a little more. Everything will be better. That was easy for my parents but Ann was unhappy for days and months.

One day she didn’t come to school. In the evening she called me on the phone. “Mary, please. Come and help me. Mum went some where else.
Dad didn’t come home. I don’t want to stay here anymore.” I went to Ann’s house and saw that she was in fear.
She said: “Mary, I want to go far places. I don’t want to see my parents anymore. Can you help me? I said “Yes, let’s go.”
Ann had a little money in her money – box. We took it. We arrived at the nearest bus – stop and got on the first bus. We didn’t know where to go. We didn’t talk about it.

When we reached the last station we got off the bus. It was dark and cold. There was a tree near the bus stop. We sat under it and began to wait for something. Something we didn’t know.

It was morning when we woke up. There were some people at the bus stop. We stood up and began to walk. Ann said nothing. I said “I’m hungry’. We had a little money. Ann went to a
market and bought a bottle of milk. We drank it together and we still had some money. We went to a park and played with the other children. It was funny. We were cheerful and free.

The evening came again. There was a statue in the centre of our unknown town. We decided to spend the night under the shadow of it. We were hungry but happy. First, Ann slept then I
did.

In the morning when we woke up there was a police officer near us. He asked: “Who are you? What are you doing here?” We could say nothing. The policeman brought us to the police
station. He phoned someone and said:” We found the little girls. You can take them to their parents.”
That was the end of our story. My parents were very happy to see me. Finally Ann’s parents arrived. They hugged Ann and promised her like this: “Dear, we will never make you sad. Please
forgive us.
