a. First: İlk olarak anlamına gelir. Bir paragraf oluşturmak istendiğinde muhtelemen ilk cümle içinde “first” geçen cümledir. Kendisinden sonra cümle ya da isim gelir.
b. Then: “Bundan sonra” anlamına gelir. Bir paragrafın ara cümlelerin başında kullanılabilir.
Kendisinden sonra cümle gelir.
c. After: “Sonra” anlamına gelir. Bir isimle birlikte kullanılır.
“We watched a film after the match.”
d. Before: ‘Önce’ anlamına gelir. Bir isimle birlikte kullanılır.
“We watched a match before the film.”

e. Finally: ‘Son olarak’ anlamına gelir. Bir paragrafın en son cümlesi muhtemelen ‘finally’ ile başlar. Kendisinden sonra cümle gelmelidir.
f. So: ‘Bu yüzden’ ya da ‘böylece’ anlamına gelir. İki cümlesi birbirine bağlar yani kendinden sonra mutlaka cümle gelmelidir.

g. Because: ‘Çünkü’ anlamı taşır. Genelde ‘Why’ ile sorulan soruların cevabıdır. Bağlaç olarak kullanılır. Kendisinden sonra mutlaka cümle gelmelidir.
h. But: ‘Fakat’ anlamına gelir. Zıt anlam taşıyan cümleleri bağlamak için kullanılır.
